The  Before we are forgotten  is a series of four large-scale paintings that explore the current environmental condition of Lake Pátzcuaro , which has been severely affected by recurring droughts in recent years. The project was supported by a grant from my country’s Ministry of Culture, through the Established Artists Program in Michoacán—an important validation of my artistic practice. The series is inspired by the flora of Lake Pátzcuaro—also known as Uranden—the setting of Michoacán’s traditional Night of the Dead celebrations. This ritual has fascinated me since childhood. Its significance in my personal life is such that my wife and I were married on November 2, crossing the lake by boat that night in the midst of a violent storm. Drawing on the local ecosystem, the paintings offer a pictorial interpretation of the landscape intended to raise awareness not only of environmental degradation, but above all of the possibility of environmental recovery in this Purépecha reg...

Hello There !!!! I must thank my country’s Ministry of Culture for awarding me the Established Artists Grant here in Michoacán . It’s a tremendous validation of my work as an artist—especially now,    In the months ahead, I’ll be creating a series of paintings inspired by the flora of Lake Pátzcuaro / Uranden , the backdrop for Michoacán’s traditional Night of the Dead . I’ve been captivated by this celebration since childhood—so much so that my wife and I married on November 2 , marking the occasion by sailing across the lake that night amid a raging storm. The name of the project is  " Before we are forgotten " More updates on the project coming soon. Here i share with you some of my photos from the lake zone. I made a lot, this is a selection.

Alfredo Zalce 1996 by René Serrano Morelia, Michoacán México.  Alfredo Zalce was a renowned artist in the region of Michoacán, Mexico, and a resident of Morelia. I had the pleasure and honor of meeting him around 1994. During that period, I was finishing my high school studies in Economics/Administration and had temporarily set aside the idea of pursuing Arts as a career. I was in the process of taking exams to enter the university for a degree in Business Administration at the Technological Institute of Morelia. At the same time, I couldn't shake off the need to draw, to make music, but I needed guidance in the arts, and that's when he opened his doors to me. Master Alfredo Zalce, originally from Pátzcuaro, always welcomed me without charging a single cent. It seemed like he enjoyed my company, but I realized that he genuinely enjoyed the company of all the young people interested in art. "You are my guests," he would always say.
