Being an artist

Image
Last week, I found myself in the hospital emergency room, supporting a dear friend who had experienced a heart attack. There, I witnessed a diverse array of individuals—youthful, elderly, men, women—all confronting the delicate balance between life and death. All lying down with no possessions, others were alone, while a few had their last companion by their side. It was a stark reminder of life's fragility, regardless of age. Today, as the sun shines brightly, I am reminded of the importance of living in alignment with my true self. This means steering clear of falsehoods, those who betray trust, and, above all, activities that do not serve my purpose. I am grateful to life for granting me the opportunity to be an artist. To those reading these words, know that I hold you dear in my heart.

Punk Baroque *PBLTG0721 (The Three Graces) 250X150cms mix/canvas. 2021 SOLD I was raised in a religious tradition, then a fascination for the ancient religious iconography was so obvious. Since young, far from being interested in the Sunday liturgy mass, my gaze was focused on those painful madonnas of  European origins, the Mexican baroque, its exaggeration in the images, the omnipresent figure of the Virgin of  Guadalupe but also the rituals from the indigenous traditions. Later I lived and studied in central Europe for 5 years. I was so obsessed with the Medieval cathedrals, the art of “Fin de siècle,“ the icons and the ancient jewelry but also the  popular culture, the mix from the different cultures, races and different music styles in those cosmopolitan cities. At first glance it may seem opposite but if we see this mix of processes with the eyes of dialectic maybe we can find a  kind of a synthesis, maybe a mix between Pink Floyd,  J. S. Bach with Cumbias. In this research I s

A new Time Machine !!

A momentary lapse of reason.  2015  SOLD.   Mixed media/Canvas 150X120cms  Journey to the Future For centuries, human beings have harbored the imagination and dreams of time travel. Various authors in literature and, notably, in cinema have woven tales of machines capable of transporting individuals to chosen dates in time. One such intriguing concept emerged from the Vatican, described by Father François Brune in his book "Le nouveau mystère du Vatican." According to him, a machine named "The Chronovisor" utilized electromagnetic radiation for time travel. Today, humanity has progressed beyond viewing comets as omens of disaster, understanding them as celestial bodies. Yet, we must not dismiss ancient civilizations that lacked knowledge of planets and gravitational movements. There were even ancient texts considered as "books written by the devil," predicting the future along the corridors of time. However, time travel is not confined to the realms of im

Simbiosis - Project of the Established Art Creators Incentive. 2014

Image
In the year 2014, I was awarded the Established Creators Incentive, a grant that is part of FONCA/ICG.   "For a year, I was in the process of creating an installation called:" SIMBIOSIS. "It was one of the last installations I carried out until this year 2020. The production of an exhibition that, as in this case, had elements of Augmented Reality, Temperature Sensors, Projections, and computing elements is quite complex. This is because various actors are required to monitor its development during the time of such an exhibition, and not many times there is the appropriate technical staff. The final presentation of this project went smoothly, and I thank all the staff of the Instituto de Cultura de Guanajuato as well as the Museo Olga Costa for all the invaluable support they offered me to achieve this exhibition." "Objective: To present a multimedia installation that inspires reflection on our impact and influence as a species and as a

Dance in the Forest. Painting Series. JULY 2019

Image
Dance in the forest series is a Painting work commissioned by a real state and a parallel experimentation in my own studio. (VIDEO PROCESS IN THE BOTTOM) This building is located near the forest so the inspiration for this artwork became obvious… I started to think about a dance in the forest with butterflies, trees, flowers… So i decided to ask my ballerinas friends to work with me in this commission. My painting work has been inspired by time, textures, music and calligraphy, for this time i decided to work with human skins. This was not the first time… This is an old technique that began in 1958 and now I add my own recipe… When the surface area is ready with the skin textures I start my personal signature recipe with a calligraphy process as a new dialogue with the printed forms. This new layer is covered with a painting work inspired by the textures, forms, time, skin and after all: music.
