The Punk Baroque Series:

Conceived as urban posters that might advertise a fictional music group, these Hypothetical icons evoke both real and imagined memories.

They are reconfigured through geometric forms, references to popular culture, and subtle reinterpretations of art history—layered and remixed in the manner of a DJ.

This series employs simple materials, such as colored pencils, graphite and Spray Paint on raw canvas, prepared with a single sealing layer, leaving behind fingerprints and other marks that reflect the process.

Today I’d like to talk about the “Punk-Baroque” series.

It isn’t really the main body of work I exhibit, but rather a kind of relaxation exercise, since my primary abstract painting practice takes a lot of energy.

Unlike realistic paintings, in the abstract style there is no “script,” and there are often tensions in the steps and decisions I must make.

I’ve called it Punk-Baroque as a nod to the vinyl album covers I grew up with and my affection for that audio format.

Due to the project’s accessibility, the series is very old and began when I was studying at the academy, although at that time I didn’t know how to define it or why I was doing it. In fact, in an earlier post I talked about the first projects in that series.
