Hypothetical Icons:  Drawings from a Parallel Studio

Emerging as a deliberate intermission from the main abstract series, this paintings turns toward the immediacy and restraint of figure drawing. Working with colored pencil and graphite over flat color planes, the artist constructs hypothetical icons positioned between authentic memory and fiction.


The imagery draws from an eclectic visual archive—old magazines, digital finds, and personal photographs—chosen for their inherent vulnerability and human quality. Rather than focusing on conventional likeness or surface aesthetics, the portraits represent friends, mentors, and local community members with whom the artist shares genuine relationships, conversations, and history.


By remixing art historical motifs with pop culture and personal iconography, the graphic, minimalist medium reflects an unburdening of studio routine. Ultimately, the series operates as both an affectionate tribute and an ongoing study of how artistic influence is continually digested and reconfigured.
